We conclude our interview with Dana Richards, editor of Martin Gardner’s Colossal Book of Short Puzzles and Problems pondering how to cut a hole through a cube large enough that another, same-sized cube can pass through!

    Here is a nice video on YouTube of a cube passing through a cube of the same size.

    The answer to the puzzle seems plausible if you observe the angle as being on a plane “oblique” to the faces of the cube. If you fold out the net of the cube into two-dimensions, however, it seems to suggest a different angle with the same pair of rays/sides.

    The problem seems to be topological… we are making assumptions involving Euclidean geometry when the topological space is the surface of a cube.
