EL. Math Dance with Dr Schaffer and Mr Stern

Karl Schaffer of Math Dance shows us some geometry tricks!

In the podcast, we had a little difficulty describing some of the ways of holding your hands. In the first trick, two people each make a swing set like so:

Then the two swing sets are brought together, leg to leg, but perpendicular to one another, to form a tetrahedron:

One of the riddles of the show is: how can two people form a cube, using three fingers on each hand? Here’s a spoiler:

Ok so it’s only approximately cubical!!

If you put some gum in between your thumbs and forefingers like so, you’ll have another tetrahedron!

If you squeeze the gum between three fingers on each hand, what shape will you have?
